Great First experience in the desert

Stayed 1 night. Note that all hotels in Som are on one side of the road across from the sands. There are no camps in the sand per se. Tents where quite spacious but furnishings and beddings a bit unclean for our liking especially towels etc. Bathroom is big as well, but no walls only Cloth but very private. No issues whatsoever. There are lots of activities across the road in the desert. Camel ride, dune ride, parasailing etc. We had a complimentary sunset camel ride from the resort. Ahotel staff accompanied us across the street and the camel owners took over from there. Unfortunately, the camel owners were very pushy and instead of an hr ride, they did like 15 min into the desert and dropped us and then told us that we can pay them more for taking us further inside. We declined, so they dropped us in the desert to view the sunset and picked us up after sunset. ride back was less than 5 minutes. so total only 20 mins of camel ride. Even after skimping the ride, they expected us to be super generous with the tips. Very bad experience, we did inform the hotel front desk and they were very apologetic and even offered another ride next day but we declined due to onward travel. Back to the resort, they offered us welcome drinks, tea and coffee during check in early evening. Later in the evening around 7 pm, before the start of the cultural show, there is a serving of tea/coffee and snacks. Very decent. The cultural show itself was below average. The dancers were so bad that 2 of them were just looking at the 3rd one and trying to copy the steps. Cultural show was a 4/10. Dinner was quite elaborate and had variety of Rajasthani food. It was good. After the dinner, the culture show area became an open DJ floor. Lots of DJ music, dancing and ppl of all ages had a good time. Nights are bit chilly, but the blankets were quite adequate. We had arranged for a desert sunrise jeep ride so we woke up by 5 and went into the desert a bit far from the resort. Note that you can arrange for this with the front desk which might be marked up. We found it cheaper with our driver arranging it privately. i am sure he got a cut, but was still cheaper than front desk price. Sunrise was fantastic as well. Inside the desert there are so many activities, quad scooter, dune buggy, para sailing, motored aircraft etc. But be sure to bargain, they just come up with absurd prices. It was quite busy early so early in the morning. Breakfast was good a variety & mix of food. was pleasantly surprised to see decent idly in the desert. Staff who was attended us was very patient, calm and attended to all our needs. He also helped load/unload the bags from the vehicle. Great guy, didnt note down his name. Overall a good stay and experience.

The rooms are again very unclean. Food is served in a very average manner. There were shows but it’s not recommended for a good family. It’s good for a rowdy crowd but not for a family. Be prepared to not have the best experience.

Not a good place to go with your family

I don't recommend this place for families. Neither they have hot water in the bathroom nor a kettle to drink water. We frozen to death and couldn't sleep at all whole night and left the place early in the morning than our actual plan. It might work for teenagers but going there with family is a bad idea.

Expectations fulfilled!

We are a senior citizen couple who completely enjoyed our stay on 10th Dec, 2023. Bang in front of sand dunes, the expectations were fulfilled. It was cold and suggest air conditioning in tents. The food is only vegetarian and at least eggs are expected. Right from the welcome, at every activity, soliciting tips was a bit of a put-off
